Cass Rudolph on spontaneity: Planning out my sessions is really important, but in that planning I try and leave 15-20 mins at the end as completely unplanned shooting time. You spend so much of a session building trust between you and your subject it’s important act on that while you still have them in a space of creating. Getting someone out of their comfort zone…getting yourself out of your comfort zone it’s integral to growth as a creative and making room to play is something I’ve had to learn to do, it’s not a natural state for a lot of me but some of my best work comes out of it. My expectations of “free play time” is to expect nothing to come out of it except lessons learned…but sometimes magic like this happens instead.

These were taken in the last 15 mins of a session with musician Asha Pieper.
